Good Design in Ten Commandments:
My personal favorites…
Good design is as little design as possible.
Back to purity, back to simplicity.
Beings I work in the entertainment industry, the notion of this seldom rears it’s head. Simplicity won’t be noticed, they worry. But when everything looks the same, something nice and simple will surely stand out.
Good design makes a product useful.
A product is bought in order to be used. It must serve a defined purpose – in both primary and additional functions. The most important task of design is to optimise the utility of a product.
When I was in school I always believed that every piece should have 3 pieces of clever in them. How times have changed. Now always feel like I need to do what I call “The Big Pay-off”, and that is just when the viewer feels like they’re actually there for a moment. This is why my concepts are so scene based.
