God Awful Things

Let me preface this by posting the following video, which is a long set up with very little reward..

The past month or so my internet connection at home has been pretty flakey. The $60 a month gets me 6 megabits down and about 1 megabit up, not shabby.  However, for the past month and random moments, the modem seems to crash and unplugging it (GAH!) and plugging it back in does nothing.

So a few weeks ago during the first occurrence (downtime = 3 days), I got on the time warner interactive chat deal.  The person on the other end was pretty helpful, more importantly, didn’t treat me like an idiot, said they’d send out a packet to the modem and to try and reset it when I got home, but since they didn’t think it’d work they went ahead and scheduled a tech to come out in a couple days.  Has technology not advanced enough that the Cable service that was joked in Seinfield over 10 years ago still applies to this day? At least it’s only a 2 hour window and they will supposedly call.  Back in the day it was a 6 hour window and you just had to be there, and don’t bother taking a shower, cos they’d show up right then and you wouldn’t hear them.

Anyway, I went home for lunch, unplugged the modem and plugged it back in (GAH!) and sure as shit, it didn’t work.  When I got home that evening it was working, so I canceled the service appointment.  Same thing happens the next week, this time I am at work chatting with the person whom even asks how my day is, I say it is hot and I’m at least cool at work offices..

He asks me to try unplugging the modem and plugging it back in (GAH!!!!), and remind him of the pleasantries we have just exchanged and how I am at work and my internet service at home isn’t working and how they hell would I be home talking to him via chat if my internet connection isn’t working?!  He says without unplugging the modem he is unable to help me, but will schedule me an appointment for the next day between 1pm and 3pm.  I get home and it’s working, I cancel again and time warners messaging system tells me it was schedule for noon.. oh well, it works now.

This weekend it’s been down the whole time, I am ready to stop being retarded and have just accepted it is jacked up.. so I get on the internet here at work, explain the deal, the schedule and appointment for tomorrow and… say they will compensate for the downtime?!?! Seriously? Well, we will see, but this could nearly make me forget the monthly highway robbery they charge.

Anyway, this is why there have been a lack of personal posts.. Which is a shame, as I think I have another story of my flowery youth ready to come up.
