This was going around the internets last week and I wanted to write something about it then, but I was busy at work (hence posting pictures), but now I am just trying to look busy as opposed to actually being busy, so there is time to write this up.
Over at the New York Times there is an article about our favorite particle accelerator the LHC and its troubles.
A pair of otherwise distinguished physicists have suggested that the hypothesized Higgs boson, which physicists hope to produce with the collider, might be so abhorrent to nature that its creation would ripple backward through time and stop the collider before it could make one, like a time traveler who goes back in time to kill his grandfather.
Naturally, this is awesome, and the implications mind blowing.
“It must be our prediction that all Higgs producing machines shall have bad luck,” Dr. Nielsen said in an e-mail message. In an unpublished essay, Dr. Nielson said of the theory, “Well, one could even almost say that we have a model for God.” It is their guess, he went on, “that He rather hates Higgs particles, and attempts to avoid them.”
This malign influence from the future, they argue, could explain why the United States Superconducting Supercollider, also designed to find the Higgs, was canceled in 1993 after billions of dollars had already been spent, an event so unlikely that Dr. Nielsen calls it an “anti-miracle.”
Strong evidence indeed. I wonder what Meat Wad would say on the matter?
Meat Wad, explain please… I see… wait what?
Could you dumb it down for me?
Now I could be wrong (and probably am) but are they talking about the Higgs particle possibly doing some quantum tunneling through space time?

LOLZ, he's pushing paper
Maybe I’m not understanding the idea properly.. what does youtube have on the matter?
Ok, so we don’t know where they are, only where they’re likely to be, got it, and there is then when there isn’t ugh.. ok Kaku, bring me back from the ledge with some time travel talk that’s completely unrelated.
Thank you.
