So I got in a car accident yesterday. Fortunately, no one was hurt, but my car is dead.
I was exciting the 101 North (not to Non-Angelinos: All freeways out here are “The N” where N = the number, I don’t know why, but only here.. and if you hear people do it in TV shows or movies you can be sure it was written by someone out here). At the base of the Santa Monica Blvd exit See fig 1
As I proceeded up the ramp, I heard a truck horn behind me and looked in the rear view mirror just in time to see a silver Mazda come smashing into my trunk.
When I was a teen I saw my fair share of ditches in a car, speeding down gravel roads trying to power slide the corners or take a truck trough a snow bank. There was never any damage to the vehicles though. In Los Angeles a few years ago I was in a left turn lane in Culver City waiting to take a left to get some beef jerky which I noticed a pick up truck coming up way to fast behind me and POW!
We pulled into the 7-Eleven parking lot to inspect the damage, there was a ding in my trunk.. it had sounded much worse. I told the guy not to sweat it, I was driving a piece of shit car and I didn’t need to screw him over… Odd, considering he had already admitted fault.
Another time I was at an afternoon party in Echo Park when a girl came in near tears asking who drove that big pice of shit out front, it was me. She had scrapped my fender, “don’t worry about it, it’s a piece of shit”. She was very grateful (and probably drunk).
So when I got hit from behind and it didn’t feel that bad, I was prepared to tell these folks on the Santa Monica Blvd exit of the 101 “Hey man, it’s cool.. no one got hurt, no airbags deployed, just a ding in the trunk, right?”
But walking behind my car it became very apparent this wasn’t the case.
“Gook Lover” had been scratched into the trunk of this car years ago under the eyes of the previous owner in Texas whislt getting some dental work done (as I recall). But the handwriting was so sloppy it have very easily said “Book Cover”. None the less, this is the end of that car, and I will now have to figure out how I’m going to buy another. Goodbye “Book Cover”, you caused me very little problems.
